We have found that flight prices tend to be lowest 3-4 months before traveling to/from Panama.
For accommodation, we'd recommend booking as early as possible due to the limited availability.
Bocas is hot and humid, so:
Lightweight, breathable clothing
A selection of swimsuits
Comfortable shoes (flip-flops or sandals)
A rain jacket
Sunglasses
Sunhat
Reef-safe sunscreen
After-sun lotion or aloe vera
Lip balm with SPF
Beach bag for easy storage
Water bottle to stay hydrated
Insect repellent
Packing light will make traveling on domestic flights and boats between the islands more comfortable. Ideally, bring only what you can carry.
October is our favorite month for weather in Bocas, when it normally ranges from 24°C (75°F) to 30°C (86°F) with plenty of sunshine. That being said, it's a tropical rainforest with an unpredictable climate, so it can rain at any time. Bring a rain jacket!
Panama uses the US Dollar. Most places accept all common credit cards, like Visa and Mastercard, but bring some cash ($100 per person should be more than enough for three days) for things like boat rides and taxis.
There are also ATMs on the main island.
